I was born in Taiwan and I came Britain in 1997. My unique experiences of different countries and working environments have encouraged me to take a further step and explore new aspects of my ability and myself. Together with collective memories of my life, they fuse into one inspiration of my artistic creativity.

I lost my hearing due to an illness when I was one year old. Communication has therefore always been a central issue for me. As I live in a world of no sound, paint allows me to record what I hear in my mind and my soul. I can then invoke this in colour on canvas and paper; I express my feelings in a graphic way.

As an artist, I want to look into my soul and search for an inner meaning through the exploration of different personal experiences. Paintings contain the language and emotions of the artist's creative processes, reduced and confined from the mental images and inner characteristics of the individual.

When I create works of art I am doing so in my own space and time. As a deaf person, my awareness of the world is more informed by what I see. There is one less sensory facility to distract me. When in remote, deserted landscape I am an individual with my own feelings and fears. The exception to this is my more recent experience of hearing the waves bashing onto the Cornish coast, which I only experienced after receiving new digital hearing aids.

The work of an artist is the manifestation of the painting skill, and the unique characterisations of the individual. From the inspiration of external beauty the artist can be moved and inspired to develop art that is both spiritual and functional. Spiritual in the sense that it transcends the everyday and explores inner space and time. Functional in the sense that it can be read as a literal interpretation of events and objects in the real world.

By identifying these fundamental essences, I am aiming to surmount the fears and uncertainties of my own feelings, and reach peace of mind. The achievements of which will be revealed as simplicity and strength in my work.
